Men More Physically Fit Than women
Here is some news for all the feminists. Latest research have finally proved that women are weaker than men physically. For their study, the researchers observed activity levels in school children and adults over 70 years of age discovered that males are more active.
The researchers also observed that the girls involvement in playtime was six percent lower than the boys. On studying the girls and boys of 10-11 years of age, it was found that the girls and boys play differently.
"Our study shows that girls and boys play differently. Girls tend to spend time in smaller groups and engage in verbal games, conversation and socialising. Most boys play in larger groups, which lend themselves more to physically active games, such as football," Dr Nicky Ridgers said.
However the study does not claims that playtime activity has any impact on the children's weight, though it can be a factor. By reaching the age of 11, about 33 percent of children are obese. This refers to both boys and girls, but it was clinically proven that adult women grow more obese than men.
"It is a concern that girls' activity levels are lower than boys and, although it is just one piece in a complex picture, this could be contributing to girls being overweight and obese," Dr Ridgers said. The second study that involved the over-70 year olds revealed that the activity levels were low in both the sexes, however women are generally less active than men.
This study lead by the University of Bristol reported that more than 70 percent of the people that participated in the study walked less than 5,000 steps a day.
"Men accomplish more higher intensity physical activity than women and this seems to be explained by trips out of the house. However, there is evidence that they also sit down for longer periods in the day. Women do more lower intensity activity which probably represents daily tasks around the house," said Ken Fox, Professor of Exercise and Health Sciences at the University of Bristol (UK).
"This would suggest that traditional family roles are still identifiable in this generation. We are now taking a closer look at what may lie behind this gender difference and are attempting to identify the best ways of promoting physical activity to help improve mental well-being and physical fitness among the over 70s," Fox added.
