Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe | Dal Khichdi Recipe
Moong dal khichdi is an authentic Maharashtrian recipe that is prepared during the festive seasons and is also offered to God as naivedyum. Here is a detailed procedure with images and a video.
Moong dal khichdi, also simply known as dal khichdi is a popular Maharashtrian food that is prepared during breakfast. It is also prepared as naivedyum for most festivals and offered to God before distributing to everybody.
The moong dal ki khichdi, as its name depicts is made of moong dal and rice pressure cooked with a few spices. This recipe is prepared without any onion or garlic and is offered to Lord Ganesha during Chathurthi. It is also made for other festivals like Paryushan, Durga puja etc..
The dal khichdi is extremely simple and quick to make and can be eaten as a breakfast meal. The ghee floating on top brings out the aroma and the taste of the khichdi which leaves people craving for more.

MOONG DAL KHICHDI VIDEO RECIPE

Basmati rice - ½ cup
Split green moong dal - ½ cup
Hing (asafoetida) - ¼th tsp
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Jeera (cumin seeds) - 1 tsp
Jeera powder - 1 tsp
Water - 5 cups + for rinsing

1. Add basmati rice into a sieve.
2. Then, add split green moong dal.
3. Rinse it with water and keep it aside.
4. Add ghee into a heated pressure cooker.
5. Add jeera, hing and sauté until the jeera turns brown.
6. Add the washed moong dal and basmati rice.
7. Stir well.
8. Add turmeric powder and jeera powder.
9. Add water and mix well.
10. Add salt and allow it to boil for 2 minutes.
11. Close it with the lid and pressure cook it for up to 4-5 whistles.
12. Once it cools down, open the lid and stir well.
13. Transfer it into a serving bowl.
- 1. If you like the khichdi softer and a little runny, add extra water according to your preference.
- 2. You must add ghee on top while serving as it gives a unique aroma and falvour.

STEP BY STEP - HOW TO MAKE MOONG DAL KHICHDI
1. Add basmati rice into a sieve.

2. Then, add split green moong dal.

3. Rinse it with water and keep it aside.

5. Add jeera, hing and sauté until the jeera turns brown.



6. Add the washed moong dal and basmati rice.

7. Stir well.

8. Add turmeric powder and jeera powder.


9. Add water and mix well.


10. Add salt and allow it to boil for 2 minutes.


11. Close it with the lid and pressure cook it for up to 4-5 whistles.


12. Once it cools down, open the lid and stir well.


13. Transfer it into a serving bowl.
