Babymoon: Is It Safe To Travel During Pregnancy; When Should You Not?
In so many ways, whether you are expecting your first child or your second or third, your life is about to change.
With all the excitement and nerves of a new arrival - and mentally preparing for the chaos that's about to come - a pre-baby vacation (aka babymoon) might just be what you're looking for!

Babymoon: What Is It?
Like a honeymoon, a babymoon is a celebratory vacation. However, instead of spending time alone with your spouse after the wedding, this time together is spent prior to the birth of a child. Because let's be honest, once a baby is born, there are few opportunities to enjoy a getaway, this trend has gained in popularity [1].
To have one last vacation as a couple before the birth of their first child, some couples plan a babymoon before their child is born. There is no rule that says you can only take a babymoon with your first child - or if you are a couple. If you wish, you may do this for each pregnancy, or completely on your own [2].
What Is The Best Time To Take A Babymoon?
The timing of a babymoon is not set in stone. Truthfully, you can plan the trip whenever you desire, even during your third trimester. However, you want to take full advantage of the experience, so timing can be crucial [3].
It is best to plan a babymoon when you are feeling your best, which for most women is during their second trimester. Morning sickness is a major issue during the first trimester, and the last thing you want is to miss out on a vacation due to it.

Additionally, it is advisable to plan a babymoon before the third trimester, when you are likely to feel more tired and uncomfortable. In addition, you should keep in mind the possibility of early delivery or restrictions on travel during the third trimester.
How To Prepare For A Babymoon?
Make sure to consult your physician before making reservations for an international trip to learn how to prepare for long flights and whether travelling to certain parts of the world is safe.
- A country with an outbreak of the Zika virus should be avoided [4].
- Do not travel to areas where malaria is a high risk.
- A staycation may be a good option if you are concerned about getting sick or encountering other complications while away. Book a hotel room near your home and enjoy being a tourist in your own city.
- To avoid exhaustion, spread major activities over several days and schedule frequent breaks [5].
Is There A Best Time To Travel During Pregnancy?
It is recommended that you travel during the middle of pregnancy (14 to 28 weeks). During these weeks, your energy has returned, morning sickness has disappeared, and you are still able to move around easily. After 28 weeks, it may be harder to sit or stand for long periods of time [6].

On A Final Note...
The babymoon is a great opportunity for expecting parents to reconnect and relax before the birth of their child. Check your budget to see what kind of vacation you can take before your baby is born.
