A pair of sunglasses became the unexpected talking point during Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's recent visit to Salem. While his official programme centred on the Mettur Dam and the release of water for agricultural needs, it was a brief interaction with an elderly woman named Chellam that caught social media's attention.
During an unscheduled stop at a roadside farmhouse, Vijay met a group of elderly women and spoke to them before removing the Christian Dior sunglasses he was wearing and placing them on Chellam. He then gifted the pair to her. The moment was captured on video and quickly went viral.
Naturally, there was another question doing the rounds: how much did those Dior sunglasses actually cost?

The sunglasses seen in the viral video appear to be the DiorTag SU Black Rectangular Sunglasses, with the reference number DTAGSUR_10B0. The design is fairly understated for a luxury accessory. It features a thin black rectangular acetate frame, blue lenses and crystal-tone and silver-finish metal detailing on the temples. The Christian Dior signature appears subtly along the temples, while the blue temple tips add a small contrast to the otherwise black design.

That combination also explains why the sunglasses can work with everything from casual clothing to a more formal look without being overwhelmingly logo-heavy.

Dior's official Indian website currently lists the DiorTag SU Black Rectangular Sunglasses at ₹41,000. The same model is listed at $490 on Dior's US website.
What Makes The Dior Sunglasses Different?
The DiorTag SU isn't designed as an overtly flashy pair of designer sunglasses. Its appeal lies in the details.
According to Dior, the sunglasses have a black acetate frame, blue lenses and crystal-tone and silver-finish metal temples featuring a blue Christian Dior logo. The lenses offer 100% UVA/UVB protection and are classified as Filter Category 3. They are also suitable for prescription lenses.

What makes the sunglasses story more interesting is that they weren't bought as a gift.
While speaking with Chellam, CM Vijay placed the sunglasses over her eyes. She later said she was extremely happy about meeting him and recalled that he asked whether she had eaten.
Chellam also reportedly said Vijay looked just as he did in his films. For someone who had watched him as a film star, the interaction clearly meant more to her than the value of the accessory itself.
She even described the experience as feeling like winning a crore of rupees, highlighting how much the encounter meant to her.

For a luxury accessory, the DiorTag SU has certainly acquired an unusual story. It started as a pair of sunglasses worn by Vijay during an official visit and ended up becoming a keepsake for Chellam after an unexpected roadside meeting.
The ₹41,000 price tag explains why people noticed the sunglasses, but the viral video is ultimately about what happened when the designer accessory changed hands. For Chellam, it wasn't simply a Dior pair worth thousands of rupees.
