DVT is the formation of blood clot, in the deep veins. DVT is most common in the calf veins, for the non pregnant patients. So the researchers conducted a study to see whether this is also the case for pregnant women in order to limit diagnostic procedures, such as x-rays, because of the effects on the fetus.
The researches showed that the left-sided DVT and proximal DVT are most common during the pregnancy. The experts also think to conduct a routine examination of iliofemoral system when a pregnant patient presents with suspected DVT.
The report has been published in Canadian Medical Association Journal.
