Deep Vein Thrombosis During Pregnancy

The deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in pregnant women is more likely to occur on the left side, particularly in the left leg, says the new studies.

DVT is the formation of blood clot, in the deep veins. DVT is most common in the calf veins, for the non pregnant patients. So the researchers conducted a study to see whether this is also the case for pregnant women in order to limit diagnostic procedures, such as x-rays, because of the effects on the fetus.

The researches showed that the left-sided DVT and proximal DVT are most common during the pregnancy. The experts also think to conduct a routine examination of iliofemoral system when a pregnant patient presents with suspected DVT.

The report has been published in Canadian Medical Association Journal.
