Top 6 Things To Do During Postpartum Bleeding

Postpartum Bleeding (Bleeding After Birth) Tips -
1. On an average, a woman will lose up to 225 mls of blood and the menstrual periods after having a baby will be very different from the normal periods. The uterus wall that was built as a lining to the baby will come out with the blood. In order reduce the blood flow during postpartum period, the mothers need to breastfeed.Breastfeeding stimulates the contraction of the uterus. It minimises bleeding and fastens the shrinking of the uterus.
2. Another important thing the mothers need to follow is rest. Apart from breastfeeding, resting can reduce afterpains and blood flow. Lying down during the early days of the bleeding will slow down the gushing of blood thus relaxing the body for a while.
3. As the postpartum bleeding is very high, the pads need to be changed frequently. This avoid the obsessive smell of the body. It is best to go for maternity sanitary pads or incontinence pads.
4. After 10 days of postpartum bleeding, the color of blood reduces to pink or brown indicating that the period is coming to end. But if the color doesn't change (bright red) and the lower abdominal pain is still experienced, it is important for the mothers to get checked by the doctor.
5. If the mothers experience haemorrhage during bleeding after the birth, or had a Caesarean birth, it may be due to anaemia so having more iron rich food will provide energy and bring down the tired feeling.
6. Mothers who are bleeding after birth should avoid swimming in public pools at least for 6 weeks. Even bathing should be according to the doctor's precaution, especially after a Caesarean.
