Dhanteras 2026: Prosperity Begins at Home, But Peace Matters More, Says Astrologer Rinhee Suberwal
Dhanteras is considered one of the most auspicious occasions of the festive season, symbolising wealth, prosperity, good health and new beginnings. Astrologer, tarot card reader, crystal healer and numerologist Rinhee Suberwal shares the significance of the festival, the traditions people should follow and the astrological changes that could influence different zodiac signs.

Explaining the significance of Dhanteras, Rinhee says, "Dhanteras comes from two words, 'Dhan' and 'Teras'. Dhan represents wealth, while Teras refers to the thirteenth lunar day of the Kartik month. There is a beautiful story associated with this day. King Hima's son was predicted to die at a young age. However, his wife, who knew about the prediction, decided to protect him. She decorated the house with gold and jewellery, kept lamps illuminated and sang songs throughout the night. When Yamraj arrived, he was distracted by the brightness and splendour and eventually left without taking the prince's life. This is why Dhanteras is associated with prosperity, protection and the victory of light over darkness."
She further highlights the religious significance of the occasion, adding that Lord Dhanvantari is worshipped on Dhanteras, while Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber are also revered during the five-day festive period.
Talking about what people should purchase on Dhanteras, Rinhee says, "Traditionally, people should buy a broom, grains, gold or silver on this day. Brass and copper are also considered auspicious choices. However, I would advise people to avoid purchasing steel, iron, petrol, oil and other items associated with Saturn. The idea is to welcome prosperity and positive energies into the household."
Sharing her astrological predictions, she believes that certain zodiac signs could experience favourable developments following Jupiter's transit into Leo on October 31. "Leo, Sagittarius and Aries signs and ascendants are likely to experience positive results. Aquarius is also approaching a favourable phase, while the intensity of Saturn's Sade Sati for Pisces is expected to decrease. Sagittarius and Leo may also experience some relief from the effects of Dhaiya. Around November 12 and November 25, further planetary changes involving Mercury, Venus and Rahu-Ketu could bring noticeable developments for different zodiac signs," she explains.
Rinhee also emphasises the importance of performing the right prayers and chanting mantras during Diwali. She believes that while people traditionally worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati and Lord Kuber should also be included in the prayers.
"People can chant 'Shreem' for Goddess Lakshmi and 'Dham' for Lord Kuber. Other mantras such as 'Om Mahalakshmyai Namah', 'Om Saraswatyai Namah', 'Om Dhanvantaraye Namah' and 'Om Gam Ganapataye Namah' can also be chanted. The mantra 'Om Devi Sarvabhuteshu Shakti-Rupena Sansthita, Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah' is also considered powerful. These prayers help people connect with divine energies and seek blessings for prosperity, wisdom, strength and good health," she shares.
Concluding with an important message for the festive season, Rinhee advises people to be mindful of their thoughts, words and actions. She believes that maintaining harmony at home is just as important as performing rituals.
"During these days, people should avoid unnecessary arguments, confrontations and quarrels. Goddess Lakshmi is believed to bless homes where there is peace and harmony. Stay calm, observe your surroundings and be mindful of the energies around you. Every coin has two sides, just as there is light and darkness. Sometimes, remaining silent is the wisest thing to do. As the saying goes, 'Mounam Pandit Lakshanam'," she concludes.
