Loss of appetite is when we lose the interest to eat. Loss of appetite is one of the common issues that can be observed among teenage children. However, a sudden loss of appetite could worry the parents.

A prolonged loss of appetite could lead to weight loss, weekend immune system, decreased energy levels, poor academic performance and illnesses in teenage children.

Depression: Teens can suffer from depression due to various reasons. Undue stress is one of the reasons for depression. One of the main symptoms of depression is reduced appetite or changes in eating pattern. Change in sleeping patterns, lack of interest in activities, etc, are also some of the other symptoms of depression.

Reasons For Loss Of Appetite In Teens

Eating Disorders: Eating disorders such as anorexia could be one of the symptoms for loss of appetite in children. Children who are a victim of this disorder starve themselves and exercise regularly in order to lose weight.

Illnesses: Certain illnesses like fever and cold could also be the main reasons for loss of appetite in teens. They may show no interest in the food, which could be the reason for some underlying medical disease.

Medication: Medications can also reduce a child's interest in foods. If your kid is under a medication for ADHD disorder, he/she might suffer from a low appetite or loss of interest in food.
