Raising daughters especially in today's scenario is a hell raising job! In the previous generation raising girls was much more easier than it is now. Maybe we were being unfair to the girls but that remains the truth that some 5 decades back girls were prepared only for the life of a householder. But now we have to prepare them for all the challenges of a professional life plus their traditional duties. As they say, women now a days are expected to be 'superwomen' and the task of bringing up these superwomen falls on your shoulders.

• As long as they are babies it is alright but the change in your approach towards daughters should come from the time they start reaching their teens.

• Teenage is an exciting and dangerous time for raising girls. All children rebel and your daughter too will. While we accept the rebellion of sons as natural, for daughters it becomes insolence, spoiling your name and a thousand other baseless allegations.

• The rules for girls in the society are different from boys but you have to leave these societal rules outside the door of your house. Within your home sons and daughters are equal.

• We are not suggesting you let girls do anything in the spirit of rebellion. You have to correct them and provide guidance just like you do for your boys; just don't tell them that you have to follow these rules for girls by virtue of your birth. It leaves a childhood scar somewhere deep within them and they grow up with suppressed angst in their hearts.

• The best part about raising daughters for fathers is that they will bond better with you. It is a psychological phenomenon that you can use to your advantage. If the mother is unable to discipline her you can step in and do the job with a friendly chat.

• Advice for fathers however is not to be too indulgent towards their little 'princesses'. As a mother if you see that your daughter is being too pampered for her own good then you have to take a matters in your own hands.

• Although daughters are naturally closer to their fathers, mothers have a special role to play when it comes to raising daughters. The time period from 12 to 18 is the time your daughter will turn into a swan from a duckling. Girls need their mothers during this time the most in their lives.

• One of the major changes would be reaching puberty, the physical changes of it, attention from the opposite sex and a lot more. You have to guide her from your own experience to handle these changes.
