Sourav Ganguly Turns 54: Rajkummar Rao Recreates Iconic Lord's Shirt-Waving Celebration In 'Dada' First Poster
Today, July 8, 2026, Dada, aka Sourav Ganguly, is celebrating his 54th birthday. Born in Behala (then Calcutta), West Bengal, to parents Chandidas and Nirupa Ganguly, Ganguly is married to renowned Odissi dancer Dona Ganguly, and the couple has a daughter, Sana. Widely regarded as one of India's greatest captains, Ganguly is credited with transforming the Indian cricket team into a fearless and aggressive side during the early 2000s.
He led India to the 2003 Cricket World Cup final, backed future stars like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and MS Dhoni, and helped India become a formidable overseas Test side. Among his many achievements, the Padma Shri awardee is also the only cricketer to win four consecutive Player of the Match awards in ODIs and holds the record for the highest individual score in an ICC Champions Trophy final.
Marking the special occasion, the makers of Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story unveiled the film's first-look poster.

The makers of Rajkummar Rao's biopic on Sourav Ganguly officially unveiled the first-look poster of Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story today, July 8, 2026, coinciding with Ganguly's 54th birthday. The poster features Rajkummar Rao recreating Ganguly's iconic Lord's balcony shirt-waving celebration after India's famous victory in the 2002 NatWest Trophy final against England. Rajkummar Rao shared the same on Instagram as a birthday tribute to Ganguly while introducing his look from the biopic.
The Iconic Lord's Balcony Celebration Recreated
One of the defining moments of Ganguly's career came after India's victory over England in the 2002 NatWest Trophy final at Lord's Cricket Ground. He famously waved his jersey from the Lord's balcony in celebration, creating one of the most iconic moments in Indian cricket history. The first-look poster beautifully recreates this unforgettable scene, which is widely regarded as a symbol of India's fearless and aggressive approach under Ganguly's captaincy.

Sourav Ganguly reshared the poster on Instagram and wrote:

Cast And Crew Of 'Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story'
According to the makers, the biopic will chronicle Ganguly's early years as a young cricketer, his rise to becoming India's captain, his leadership, resilience and the role he played in transforming Indian cricket during the early 2000s.
The film also features:

- Tanya Maniktala as Dona Ganguly
- Aparajita Adhya as Nirupa Ganguly (Sourav's mother)
- Saswata Chatterjee as Chandi Ganguly (Sourav's father)
The film is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, and presented by T-Series, DBL and Luv Films. The makers have officially announced that Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story will be released in theatres worldwide on May 14, 2027.
