But very few people know that hymen can be torn due to physical activities as well rather than just pre-marital sex. In many cases, female babies are born without the membrane, did you know this?
For those of you who don't know what a hymen is, take a look. The hymen, popularly known as maidenhead, is a ring of tissue around the vaginal orifice. In Greek, the word hymen means 'virginal membrane' or 'thin skin'. The Hymen was also a Greek God of marriage!

There are some interesting facts about hymen, which are completely outrageous and weird. Take a look at these facts about the woman's body.

Tampons
Did you know that the hymen can be broken by the use of tampons? Many who use tampons aren't aware of this interesting fact. It is also said that a woman may or may not feel the pain when the hymen tears after the insertion of a tampon.

Will You Bleed?
Yes, in some situations, you do bleed a little and in some cases, you don't. However, there are many who have the notion that they will bleed to death on their wedding night, which is a crazy thought. DO YOU KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR PERIOD?

It Looks Different!

The Tribal View
In some Australian tribes, it is believed than an older woman would break the hymen of a bride-to-be a week before the wedding. The outrageous fact about this is that if the hymen is found to be separated from the vaginal walls, the bride is subjected to public humiliation, torture or even death.

The Syrian Version Fact On Hymen
In Syria, an artificial hymen can be bought from the black market. This is a special choice given to women who can't afford the expensive hymen reconstruction surgery.

The Aftermath
The most interesting fact about hymen is when the membrane tears. The torn hymen leaves behind a circle of small pink tags at the lower end of the vagina. These tags are known as hymenal tags or carunculae myrtiformes. It is also believed that these tags shrink over time, as the woman grows older.
