India is one of the places in the world where a woman's period is considered to be a taboo. There are multiple myths revolving around a woman's period and some of them will make you drop dead with laughter. Some Indians lead their lives around myths and women tend to believe in these period myths and facts.

You can't go swimming during your period
This is a common period myth in India. Swimming at the time of periods will contaminate the pool. It is also said that it will increase the cramps. This is completely false.

Don't wash your hair when you're menstruating
Grannies might tell you to avoid this when on a period. This period myth is now busted! Washing your hair is actually good and it helps to soothe your senses.

Girls shouldn't use tampons during their first period
This is one of the weird facts about periods. It is believed that if a girl uses a tampon during her first period, the texture of the tampon will break the hymen.

Having your period means that you're unclean
There's nothing dirty about menstruation. If you must know, getting a period means the body is ready for pregnancy. It does not mean your body is rejecting the 'bad blood' or 'impurities'.

You Will Lose A Lot Of Blood
Some say when you are on a period, there are high chances of you getting anemic. This period myth in India is widely believed in. The truth is that women lose between two and six tablespoons of blood each time they get their period. This does not lead to anemia or that will you bleed to death!

The truth is that there is absolutely no way for others to tell you are on a period unless you stain your white skirt!

Avoid cold food and being bare feet on your period
This weird fact about period is actually funny. It is said that the chilliness will make your cramps worse. So, it is best to avoid both!
