By Sruthi Appu

In this era a person's virtual image is as important as his or her public image. CNET Senior Editor Dan Ackerman says that your online image can either be a boon or a curse to you. Now a days google have made people's life easier. You can google and get information on anything and everything. If the information which google shows is negative then it can be troublesome.

When a person or a company googles about you the details that pop up has to be positive. Negative details can leave negative remarks on your employer or anyone related to you. So you have to take care of your virtual image.

Networking sites are a good way to build your online image. Get yourself registered in different social networking sites and portrait yourself online.

Ackerman says that there are many ways how you can manage your online image.

1. If a negative post about you have been posted by anyone or been carried in any website then please contact the owner of that post or website and request them to remove it. As it's absolutely their call to remove or retain, the next thing what you can do is make sure that there are updates, new posts which depicts your positivity. As google picks posts according to the timeliness the old ones won't pop up.

2. The second thing what you can do is, have a google profile of yours or add yourself in networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter. It's recommended to have your details filled in these sites.

3. Companies like Brand Yourself or Reputation Defender can help you in building your online image. Also they can help you have your own website.

4. You can also remove certain URLs from google's index but the tools for this are provided by google, only to the owner of those sites.
