Mudras are basically expressions of emotions in dance. These mudras are the heart and soul of any dance form. That is why, Mumbai is celebrating a photography exhibition called Dance Mudras which focuses on the various mudras of dance. It features unusual pictures of many accomplished and renowned Indian classical dancers. Birju Maharaj and Kelucharan Mohapatra to name a few, have been showcased in the frames of this photography exhibition.


What Is So Special About This Photography Exhibition?

Dance Mudras is an one of its kind photography exhibition. More than 100 photographs have been displayed in this exhibition, and these pictures have been clicked over a span of 30 years. The curators, Mukesh Parpiani (Curator Of Piramal Art Gallery) and Dr. P.K.M. Pillai (Head of Pillai School of Photography), took quite some time to put together this sizable ensemble.

Highlights Of Dance Mudras:

A special performance by Pandit Birju Maharaji himself, is lined up for the inauguration of the Dance Mudra Festival, Mumbai. The National award winning dance maestro is all set to perform with chosen students like Saswati Sen on the 26th of April, 2012 at the NCPA Theatre, that hosts major cultural events in Mumbai.

Venue:

Both the photography exhibition and the dance performance are taking place at NCPA theatre, Mumbai.

The Exhibition: Will be open from 18th to 29th of April in the Piramal Gallery in NCPA.

Dance Performances:
The Kathak dance performance is a live event in Mumbai. It is thus, being hosted by the amphitheatre of NCPA, Mumbai.
