On May 16, when singer-actress Sanober Kabir threw a birthday party for her mother, designer Sabiha, she had a mujrewaali and a belly dancer entertaining their guests, who included Raza Murad, Saawan Kumar Tak, TV actresses Himanshi Choudhury (Jab bLove Hua), Malvika, Kishan Mulchandani and Sanober's brother, Farooque's girlfriend, Rukhsar.

Colour me red

"The theme was red and black, with lots of red carnations and red satin chairs. One wall of the room was made entirely of glass, so we had a smashing view of the sea and the Gateway of India. Everybody followed the dress code.

The food was Chinese and Indian. Even the drinks were red wine and Black Label whisky, to go with the theme. The cake was Black Forest - mom's favourite cake. I wore a red dress, which I picked up from Orchard Road, in Singapore."

Why the mujra and belly dancers? "It was great fun, and why not? Everybody had a blast and the party rocked till the early hours of the morning.

No one, including my mom's friends, wanted to leave. My brother and I put the party together for mom. It was our birthday gift for her."
