The traditional American diet is followed with the same animal source foods for dogs and other domestic animals. Since dogs too suffer from several problems like obesity, heart diseases etc they need to reduce the intake of saturated fats and cholesterol.

Vegan diet for dogs is necessary because raw meat and uncanned foods may have serious risks on pet's health due to bacterial contamination. And such health problems are comparatively less in raw fruits and vegetables.
