How To Clean A Fish Tank
Fish are considered as pets and fish keeping a hobby. The little colourful creatures that add a lot of life to your home's atmosphere ought to be given a comfy living. A clean tank will render a clean environment for the fish to thrive comfortably and happily. Here are a few steps that will help you maintain a clean fish tank.
The first and foremost step is to remove all the decorations from the fish tank except for the natural plants and heavy rocks in bigger tanks.
Do not move the fish out of the tank. Let them remain in the tank as well
Direct about 10% of water from the tank to a bucket with the help of a gravel vacuum. Sucking the end of the gravel vacuum in the start will help do the job better.
The gravel vacuum pushed in the gravel will suck fish waste and other unwanted junk and dust particles from the tank
After about 10% of the water is being removed from the tank, refill tank with clean tap water or water from the sink. Ensure that a dechlorinator is added to the new water before adding it to the tank lest your fish will die
The filter pads should be changed after a week or so of cleaning the tank.
It is not advisable to change the filter pad along with the cleaning process as it may cause a change in the existing cycle.
While changing the water never ever drain all the water from the tank as it will end up in a completely new cycle for the fish to thrive. Always stick to the habit of removing only about 10% of the water.
Not only the tank, the gravel vacuum and the filter should also be cleaned.
The gravel vacuum should be cleaned with hot water after each and every tank cleaning. This will ensure a clean vacuum for you to suck at the starting of the cleaning process the next time.
Regular cleaning of the filter will keep algae and grime at bay and will help the filter function effectively.
Hence ensure a clean and healthy environment for your fish to live happily.
