If your soap does not clean out the grime from your plastic containers, then you should try using home ingredients. These natural ingredients will leave behind a lovely odour and no stains.
No matter how much you scrub the plastic container, they will have a stale odour which is at times difficult to remove. The first step on how to clean plastic container is to rinse them with cold water and in a tub of warm water, soak for 10 minutes. After the timer goes off, wipe dry and use these natural ingredients to clean plastic containers.

Newspaper
All you need to do is crumple newspaper and stuff it into the plastic container. Snap on the lid and leave it overnight or longer. This will help to remove the stale odour. Rinse it the next day with hot water.
Charcoal
Place a piece of fresh charcoal in the plastic container. Make sure that the container is not wet, when you place the coal inside as it can stain the container. Now, seal the container and allow it to stay closed till the odour is absorbed.
Baking soda
You need to make a paste of baking soda and water. Rub this paste to clean the plastic container to remove any stubborn stains. Let it sit for a day or two and then wash off with running water.
Lemon
One of the ways to clean plastic container is to make use of fresh lemon. Rub the lemon on the interior of the container to remove odour and to lighten stubborn stains.
Coffee
One of the possible ways to clean sticky plastic containers is to place used coffee grounds (wet or dry) in the container. Allow it to stay tight in the containers and gently scrub the coffee around the interior of the container.
