You probably do not know this, but there are certain common practices in our society that are actually harmful for your health.
And while our family or friends do not teach us these things because they intentionally want to harm us, they often do end up passing on the knowledge of certain bad habits because they themselves do not realize that these practices can actually kill you!
So here are the top 10 bad habits that can kill you.
#1 Popping Your Blackheads
You probably have done this at least once in your life, or had your mother or girlfriend do it for you. But what you do not know is that popping blackheads is the worst thing you can do to your face.
Why? Because the roots of blackheads are quite deep in your skin's dermis, and so when you try to pop them, you only end up breaking off the superficial portion, which leaves the root exposed to the bacteria teeming in the air and on your face.
This usually leads to infection and inflammation, which is something we absolutely do not want on the most aesthetic part of our body!
#2 Popping Pimples Around Your Nose
The triangular area of your face from the root of your nose to the ends of your upper lip is medically called the "dangerous area of your face" because this area has veins that communicate directly with your skull and brain, but which do not have valves to prevent the backflow of blood.
That's why when you pop a pimple in this area, you are opening yourself up to dangerous conditions like meningitis and brain infection because the germs in your pimple can easily travel backwards to your brain!
#3 Using Earbuds To Remove Earwax
The tiny hair lining your auditory canal is responsible for producing earwax. And there is a reason why your body is programmed to do this.
Earwax protects your sensitive eardrum from dust, foreign bodies, and creepy crawlies (yikes!). So having a healthy amount of it in your ear is good.
But that's not the reason why you shouldn't use an earbud to clean your ears.
It's because earbuds commonly push in earwax deeper towards your eardrum, thus reducing the strength of your hearing.
Therefore, when your ears clog up with too much earwax, you should visit an ENT to get the canal cleared safely.
#4 Smoking Cigarettes
Cigarettes contain various dangerous carcinogens and poisons in them besides the tobacco in it, like butane, paint, and arsenic. And when you smoke them, these compounds find an easy way into your sensitive lungs, which reduces your breathing capacity and seeds cancer cells.
So the next time someone offers you a cigarette at a social event, refuse. Believe me, accepting is no longer the cool thing to do!
#5 Eating When You Are Not Hungry
Hunger pangs are your body's natural mechanism of alerting you that you need to refuel to keep your body functioning smoothly.
But when you bypass this natural system and eat when you are not hungry, you essentially train yourself to overeat, which leads to obesity and an uncontrollable urge to keep stuffing your mouth throughout the day!
#6 Texting While Walking
Imagine this, you are walking on the footpath when your phone buzzes suddenly. You pull it out of your bag and glance at the notification. It's a cute message from your bae!
An intense rush of serotonin hits your head and you type a super cute reply while your face fixes into a wide grin.
Before you know it, you are texting back and forth. And then the unthinkable happens. You fail to notice the open manhole and drop into the stinking, murky depths of sewage!
The scenario above is just one of the dangers of texting while you walk. You can easily walk into traffic, get crushed by a car or truck, or even slam into telephone poles!
So do yourself a favour the next time you are distracted by a message by walking over to a side and finishing your text conversation before you walk any further.
#7 You Crack Your Neck Often
It may seem sexy and masculine to crack your neck, but this habit makes you highly susceptible to neck injuries and death by stroke.
#8 You Are Stuck In An Unhappy Marriage
Studies have shown that couples who keep fighting with each other all the time are at a very high risk of dying from stroke and developing other heart problems.
So if you are stuck in an unhappy marriage, take our advice and leave. Your life and health depend upon it.
And take your children with you and go while you are at it!
#9 You Skip Breakfast
Believe us, skipping breakfast is the worst thing you can do for your body, even if you are a college kid who often wakes up 5 minutes before the lecture.
This is because breakfast is important for clearing out the excess stomach acids produced in your body throughout the night and for regulating your blood sugar level.
So do yourself a favour and keep a small apple or a few granola bars with you at all times, so that if you do end up missing breakfast, you can stuff yourself with these alternatives for the time being.
#10 You Bite Your Nails
Biting nails is the worst thing you can do to your body because your nails collect a lot of dirt and bacteria throughout the day.
In fact, studies have shown that nail dirt usually contains Salmonella and E. coli in them, which are bacteria responsible for causing food poisoning and diarrhoea.
