After the scorching days of summer, at last monsoon has stepped in to give us relief. The fresh drops of rain on the leaves make them look more fresh and green.

Rains are often accompanied by storm, thunder and lightning-the perfect mesmerising weather. But despite its beauty and greenery, the rainy season is when we mostly fall ill.

Flu, common cold, cough and especially stomach problems like diarrhea and stomachache become prevalent.

This is mainly due to the increase in germs like bacteria in the air during monsoon. The humid climate increases their content in the air and water and contaminates our food as well, which when we consume affects our health.

So, it is essential to keep a check on what we eat during monsoon so that we don't call in an unwanted health hazard.

Eating the right food along with maintaining proper hygiene is the foremost thing that one should remember during this season.

Along with that, good spices enhance the effectiveness of the food.

Ginger:

Turmeric:

We all know the rich benefits of turmeric as an antiseptic and antibiotic. This spice is widely used in all the food items in the Indian society. Turmeric contains a natural immune boosting ingredient that prevents us from falling sick especially in monsoon.

Cinnamon:

Cinnamon is an age-old spice and is widely acknowledged for its health benefits and aromatic flavour. This spice has antibacterial properties that improve oxygen levels in the blood and help fight diseases like cold and cough during monsoon.

Its other benefits include relief from joint pain, improving skin texture, helping weight loss and reducing cholesterol and heart diseases.

Mustard:

Monsoon is the season when we crave to have something fried, like egg devil, paneer tikka, pakora, samosa, to name a few. But we often fear that it might affect our health and invite stomach problems.

Mustard can be a great help in this. Mustard oil is an excellent appetiser and boosts hunger. The myth is that mustard oil is heavy and leads to indigestion. But in reality, its ingredients help to prevent diseases and allows you to enjoy your favorite food.

Fenugreek:

Popularly known as methi, fenugreek's leaves, twigs and seeds are used for cooking and contains high nutritious value. These are rich in protein, carbohydrate, vitamin A and C, calcium and minerals. It helps in improving digestion and prevents constipation.

Cloves:
