The popular Indian festival of Holi is here and as we know, it is a fun occasion for elders and children alike!
In fact Holi is so popular that it has become known globally and even foreigners who visit India indulge in this festival.
Holi is celebrated in the month of March and this festival is celebrated in most parts of India, more so in the North.

Also known as 'Basanth Utsav' and the 'Festival Of Colours', Holi signifies the victory of good over evil.
On the occasion of Holi, people meet and greet each other, visit the temples of Lord Shiva, prepare sweets at home, make an effort to forgive and forget, etc.
One of the main highlights of the Holi festival is the carnival of colours, where people throw powdered dyes and coloured water on each other, which is quite fun!
However, these dyes used during Holi may not be of good quality all the time and can contain certain toxins that can harm your health.
Here are some of the harmful side-effects of Holi colours.
1. Skin Allergy

Holi colours may contain a chemical known as chromium, which can irritate and inflame the skin tissues, causing rashes, boils and hive, immediately!
2. Eye Damage

Yet another chemical known as copper sulphate, which is found usually in the blue dye can damage your eyes, if it gets into them, causing redness, irritation, infections and even blindness!
3. Miscarriage

Pregnant women must be very careful during Holi, because, a chemical known as lead oxide may cause miscarriages, when the woman inhales or ingests the dye accidentally.
4. Skin Cancer

Yet another dangerous chemical known as aluminium bromide is a carcinogen that can lead to skin cancer, by mutating the cells of your skin.
