This One Habit Can Be The Root Cause Of All Your Digestive Problems, Says Ayurveda
Ayurveda says this is the reason for all digestive problems. Read to know about the effects of drinking water immediately after food.
At the end of a meal, we are always tempted to reach out for a glass of water. Only then do we feel satisfied. Else there is a constant nag for water that keeps tormenting us and this can only be suppressed if we gush water down our throat.
But did you know that it is strictly not recommended to drink water after your food? The digestive system has a different kind of functioning.

While you eat, the digestive system follows instructions from the brain. When you drink water immediately after or during your meals, it can make the digestive tract lose its strength and it will not be able to digest the hardest part of the food.
According to Ayurveda, "agni" or fire is responsible for the digestion of food in the stomach. It is also known as the digestive fire. Agni helps in the proper digestion of food and provides food to the body through the digestive tract.
Drinking water after or during a meal can extinguish the digestive fire and hence can hamper with the digestion process.
In this article, we will answer the question 'is drinking water after eating bad'. So, read further to know more about the effects of drinking water after food.

1. Causes Bloating:
Food cannot be fully digested when you consume water immediately after eating. Hence, this leads to air being produced in the stomach by the undigested food. This can cause bloating. This is one of the top effects of drinking water immediately after food.

2. Causes Indigestion:
The food must be digested enough in order to pass it through the digestive tract to the intestines. The intestines fail to digest the solid food. As a result of this, it can lead to constipation. This practice can contribute to chronic constipation as well.

3. Causes Acidity:
When you drink water after lunch, the gastric juice becomes diluted. As a result, the food stays for a longer time in the stomach to digest. More and more gastric juice will be produced now to aid with the digestion. Hence, now it becomes necessary to get rid of the excess gastric secretions. This can lead to acidity.

4. Blood Sugar Levels Can Increase:
This is another one of the major side effects of drinking water immediately after food. The amount of undigested food in the stomach can increase the levels of sugar in the blood.

So Which Is The Best Time To Drink Water?
So if not immediately after a meal, which is the best time to drink water? Well, as per Ayurveda, it is recommended to drink a glass of water atleast half an hour before and after having food.
