There are many habits that contact lens wearers are careless about. It's high time they quit these habits, as these can lead to serious eye damage overtime.
Contact lenses are a medical device and you cannot just pop them without a second thought. The main problem is a lot of us pop them in and forget about it completely.
This could hurt our eyes big time. You need to keep your contact lens in top shape and uncheck all the misconceptions that you have believed in until now.
One of the common mistakes that you can be making with these lenses are, sleeping in them. Sleeping in contacts can increase the risk of corneal ulcers and eye infection.

Other mistakes like rinsing lenses under tap water, instead of using a contact lens solution needs to be strictly avoided.
Wearing contact lenses beyond the wearing time also needs to be avoided at all costs.

1. Wearing Lenses For Too Long:
Most of the people wear lenses for longer hours than the recommended time. Most of the people tend to remove it only when it becomes bothersome. This needs to be avoided by all means.

2. Not Washing Hands Before Touching The Lenses:
Touching your lens without washing your hands can lead to corneal infiltrative events (CIEs). It is recommended that you wash your hands before putting on your lends in your eyes as well as before taking them out.

3. Handling It With Damp Hands:
Washing hands alone is not what is required. You need to dry your hands before touching them. Water can harbour harmful microorganisms that can be transferred onto the lens and then into the eyes, if they don't dry their hands.

4. Snoozing In Contact Lens;
People sleeping with contact lens on are at a five times higher risk of developing CIEs, according to studies. As mentioned earlier, extended use of contact lens can carry the risk of infection. This is one of the common contact lens mistakes.

5. Reusing Contact Lens Solutions:
Contact lens solution as a disinfectant is well and good but leaving it to pool up is a bad idea. Bacteria can take over the disinfectant. The same goes for reusing the same solution that causes bacteria to proliferate in it.

6. Not Drying Out The Contact Lens Case:
Bacteria loves moisture. In order to prevent ending up in hospital with corneal ulcer, you need to make sure to dry out your contact lenses every day.

7. Putting Your Contact Lens In The Mouth:
Your mouth has a lot more bacteria than the lens. If you don't clean the lens off after putting it in your eyes, then this could lead to an infection in the eye.

8. Leaving Makeup On Your Contacts:
When you put on that eyeliner, it is possible for little of that pencil to smudge onto your lens. If that happens, you need to take out the contact lens, clean and disinfect it.

9. Keeping Lens On When The Eyes Are Irritated:
When your eyes are red and bothering you, you need to remove your contacts. Your eyes can be irritated due to an infection or if there is a tear in your contact lens.

10. Taking Shower With Contacts On:
The shower, hot tub, swimming pool and other water bodies can have bacteria that can destroy your eyes, if you don't disinfectant your contact lenses properly. It could even lead to vision loss and blindness.
