During your childhood, whenever you tried to drink water while standing, your grandmother must have pestered you to sit and drink water.
Though you thought it was just a superstition, this practice seems to have a scientific side to it. Yes, it is better to drink water in the sitting position.
Well it doesn't mean that you will face adverse consequences if you drink water in standing position. But still, read on to know why sitting is better and standing is not while drinking water...

If you are in standing position while drinking water, it directly flows like a water fall through the food pipe.
The water reaches the wall of the stomach with the same force and this might cause slight damage to the surrounding areas.

Even your thirst doesn't get quenched if you drink water in standing position. Try drinking water in sitting position and see the difference.

Water might hit the cardiac sphincter when you drink in the standing position. It might interfere with the stomach acids too. Also, it might cause muscle spasms in the abdominal area. In some cases, it may cause pain in that area.
