A cold shower early in the morning or after you return from your daily workout can be a little tough, but when you consider the health benefits of a cold shower then you will surely go for it without any second thought.
When we consider the benefits of a cold shower a new research report says that cold showers in the morning drastically decrease the amount of sick days you take from work. While a cold shower is by no means a cure for an illness, but it was found to make people feel more able to go to work.
According to the research it was found that routinely having a cold shower for at least 30 cold days resulted in a reduction of self-reported sick leave from work but not illness days in adults.
3,000 participants were taken into consideration for the study and were split into four groups. One group taking normal shower, second group took 30-second blast of cold water, third group took 60 -second blast of cold water and the fourth group took 90-second blast of cold water.
Those who took a cold shower reported a slight improvement in their overall quality of life. 60 days after the 3-day experiment, close to two-thirds continued taking a shower with cold water.
Studies on animals suggest that "exposure to cold releases beta-endorphins which make dealing with pain easier" may be the reason for the positive reaction, the report revealed.
Researchers of the study call for further research on the benefits of cold showers. The study was originally published in the journal PLOS One.
