Most women, who have started puberty, experience vaginal discharge once in a while and it is quite normal.
Vaginal discharge is nothing but a clear or milky white fluid that is produced by the glands inside the vagina and cervix, and it is designed to flush out the bacteria and dead cells, in order to keep your vagina healthy.
In most cases, vaginal discharge is perfectly normal. However, depending on its consistency, odour, hue, etc., one can determine if it is time to be concerned.
Although a small amount of vaginal discharge is necessary to keep the vagina healthy and prevent dryness, if it seems unusual, then you must definitely visit a professional.
So, here is a list of reasons for vaginal discharge that you must be aware of, have a look.

1. Ovulation
A common cause for vaginal discharge is ovulation. If you notice that the discharge is thin, slippery and white, it could mean that you are ovulating or you are most fertile during this period of the month.

2. Pregnancy
Another reason for vaginal discharge is pregnancy. If you notice a lot of discharge, especially if it is yellowish in colour, it could be a sign of pregnancy.

3. Labour
If you are pregnant and you notice that your vaginal discharge has a mucus-like texture and has increased in quantity, it could mean that you are going into labour soon!

4. Yeast Infection
Yet another common cause for vaginal discharge can be yeast infection, caused by bacteria, in which the discharge will be thick, whitish and may have a foul odour.

5. Chlamydia
Another reason for abnormal vaginal discharge can be a sexually transmitted disease known as chlamydia, in which you may notice frothy, yellowish discharge that is coupled with vaginal irritation.

6. Arousal
A common cause for vaginal discharge can be arousal. When a woman is turned on, her vagina self-lubricates, releasing a clear, thin liquid and it is perfectly normal!

7. Dehydration
If you are dehydrated and are not taking in enough fluids, it can be a reason for yellowish, thick discharge, which is not a sign of good health at all! Hence, have plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated.
