We all consume sugar in the form of cakes, candies, soda, salad dressing, yogurt, pasta sauce, milk, fruits, vegetables, etc. What happens when we stop consuming sugar?
The effects depend on the amount of sugar you actually consume on a regular basis. People who are on the high end of sugar consumption display addict-like symptoms such as depression, restlessness and anxiety.
These are some of the things that will happen if you stop consuming sugar:
- Added sugar intake leads to the release of a hormone called cortisol that helps a person sleep well. So, the less you consume sugar the less sluggish you will feel. Reduce your sugar intake during the day to stay awake.

- Added sugar intake increases blood pressure, insulin levels and heart rate. Reducing sugar intake leads to reduced blood pressure and also reduction in the level of triglycerides and the bad cholesterol LDL.
- Added sugar intake triggers inflammation levels. Studies have proved that when people who were dealing with acne problems stopped consumption of sugar, their inflammation levels decreased to a considerable extent.
- Added sugar consumption can lead to diabetes. Added sugar builds fatty deposits on the liver, which lead to insulin resistance. This undermines the role of the pancreas and stops the production of insulin. So, if you stop consuming added sugar, you can save yourself from a deadly disease like diabetes.
- Added sugar means added calories. The more sugar you consume, the more weight you put on. So when you stop eating added sugar, you stop gaining weight.

- Added sugar intake does a lot of harm to your brain cells. It impairs communication between brain cells and leads to loss of memory. It also makes learning difficult. So when you stop consuming added sugar, you stay sharp and focused.
- Studies have found that added sugar intake in your diet leads to mood swings, irritability and anxiety. So, when you stop having added sugar, you are bound to be happy and gay.
