Some of the most common causes of throat infection are, viral infections, smoking, bacterial infection, cough, common cold, exposure to pollution, digestive disorders, etc.

1. Strep Throat

2. Tonsillitis
Tonsillitis can also be one of the causes for white patches in your throat, along with other symptoms like fever and headache, as this condition lead to the inflammation of the lymph nodes present in your throat.

3. Tonsilloliths
This condition is similar to tonsillitis, however in this disorder tonsil stones are formed on the inside of your throat, making them appear like white patches and may also cause symptoms like bad breath and sore throat.

4. Oral Thrush
Oral thrush is a yeast infection that affects the throat causing throat pain and also white patches in the throat, this condition can affect your tongue and the roof of the mouth.

5. Mononucleosis
Mononucleosis is a viral infection that affects the throat causing a varied number of symptoms such as sore throat, fever, loss of appetite and even the formation of white patches in the throat.

6. Leukoplakia
Leukoplakia is a rare disorder which can be caused due to certain gastrointestinal diseases. This disorder can also affect the throat causing white patches and sore throat.

7. Acid Reflux
Acid reflux is a common condition that can be caused due to indigestion and this can also lead to white patches in the throat.
