Uric acid is a heterocyclic compound of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen. In simple words, we call it a waste chemical product that is secreted when your body breaks down the substances know as purines.

Purines are found in few foods like liver, beans and beer to name a few. They are dissolved in the blood and then flows to the kidney where it is thrown out of the body in a form of urine. Though, uric acid is not harmful but still its accumulation in the body can lead to hyperuricemia (a condition where the uric acid is not secreted out from the body). When the uric acid is in the body, it gets accumulated in the joints (especially feet and toes) in the form of crystals thus gradually leading to gout.
