World Kidney Day (WKD) is observed every year on the second Thursday of March. The day aims to raise awareness of the importance of the kidneys and reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease. WKD is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF).
World Kidney Day 2023 falls on 9 March. The World Kidney Day Joint Steering Committee has declared World Kidney Day 2023 theme to be the year of "Kidney Health for All - Preparing for the unexpected, supporting the vulnerable!"

Your kidneys play a critical and central role in maintaining your health. A healthy kidney is necessary for the daily workings of your body and for maintaining your general health and well-being. Reports point out the harsh reality that about 10 percent of the population worldwide is affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD), and millions die each year.
