Soy food products form the nutritional basis for many vegetarians. Soy is a nutrient rich food which has all the essential amino acids needed by our bodies, making it an essential protein.

1. Soy & Cholesterol:
Notably, the isoflavones in soybean lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and decrease blood clotting that in turn decreases the possible risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. It also helps in preventing type 2 diabetes.

2. Osteoporosis:
Soy foods are believed to improve the body's capability to retain and absorb calcium in the bones, helping to avoid osteoporosis. Since soybean does not contain lactose, soybean based dairy substitutes prevent digestion problems.

3. Menopausal Symptoms:
It helps provide relief from menopausal symptoms. The isoflavones in soybean might help regulate oestrogen levels. There are reports that soybean can also decrease premenstrual syndrome symptoms.

4. Soy & Thyroid:
Soy can play havoc with your thyroid. This is true. Research has proved that people who suffer from hypothyroidism should stay away from soy products and those who want to consume soy must have it in moderate amounts and long after they have taken their medication.

5. Soy & Ovarian Diseases:
Over eating of soy products has been seen to cause certain health conditions in certain individuals. This is also true as research has found that some women who overate soy ended up with ovarian diseases because of the increase in oestrogen levels.

6. Soy & Breast Cancer:
Soy helps in the spreading of breast cancer. This is untrue. Research has proved that soy does not help in the spread of breast cancer if taken in moderation.
Even moderate consumption of soy makes men grow breasts. This is untrue. Moderate consumption of soy is good for health. On the other hand, over consumption can lead to this problem.
