You go to any departmental store to get your groceries and the moment you see 'sugar-free', 'low calorie' or 'organic' labels in the food packet you think those are healthy and grab it immediately.
But are they really healthy? These labels could be confusing. Many a times we eat foods considering it to be healthy but they are actually not. They contain artificial sugar and colour that can cause inflammation.
You need to properly check the foods and its contents before consuming.Food is the basic requirement for a healthy you. Hence, taking care of the food that you eat is very important.
Consuming unhealthy foods can cause several health issues especially those related to stomach and cause hormonal imbalance as well.
Making the right choice of food is highly important in order to stay healthy and prevent all kind of diseases.
So today we have listed here a few of the health foods that you should strictly avoid.
1. Fruit Juice:
You might feel that drinking fruit juice is equally healthy as eating the fruit. But this is totally wrong. In order to make a glass of orange juice you take about 4-5 oranges. This can lead to fructose overload. Unlike consuming whole fruit, the juice does not contain fibre as well.
2. Soy Protein:
We feel that soy is one of the best alternative to dairy products. But this is actually wrong. Soy contains glyphosate, an organophosphorous compound that is used to kill weeds. Hence, consuming soy milk or any other soy products can prove harmful for the body.
It can lead to death of human cells, cause allergic rhinitis, asthma, breast cancer or even urinary bladder cancer.
3. Sugar Alcohols:
You might have seen sugar-free labels in the chewing gums and certain baked foods and you might think this to be healthy and pick it up. But this is actually not healthy.
Most of these items contains sugar alcohols, xylitol is the popular one. These ingredients undergo a lot of processing and are derived from GMO ingredients like corn which are known to cause headache, allergic reaction and stomach bloating.
4. Microwave Popcorn:
Diacetyl, a chemical used in butter flavoring in popcorn can be harmful. It can seriously affect the lungs. Hence, it is always better to prepare popcorn at home using real butter.
5. Vegetable Oils:
Vegetable oils are often considered healthy, but they are not. Vegetable oils like canola oil, soyabean oil and corn oil are rich in omega-6 fatty acids. But these oils are highly sensitive to oxidation and can cause increased oxidative stress in the body. This can increase the risk of cancer. So instead of vegetable oils, it is better to opt for virgin olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil.
6. Table Salt:
Table salt is not a healthy option. It undergoes a lot of processing, it is stabilized with dextrose and bleached white thus making is harmful for consumption. Hence it is always better to opt for sea salt or himalayan salt.
7. Artificial Sweeteners:
Artificial sweeteners are not healthy. It causes disturbance in your gut and can trigger diabetes. Over a period of time, regular consumption of artificial sweeteners can cause breast cancer, brain tumors and weight gain.
8. Fat-free Milk:
Many of us think that fat-free milk are healthy, but in reality it is not. Most of the fat-free milk available are loaded with added sugar that are known to increase the risk of type-2 diabetes, heart disease and also cancer.
9. Overcooked Meat:
Meat contains amino-acids as well as creatine. So when these meats are cooked at very high temperature it produces molecules that are toxic and carcinogenic. So the best option is to go for thin vinegar based marinades and one could add herbs like mint, basil, oregano and thyme as they are known to have antioxidant properties.
10: Canned Foods:
Tomatoes and beans which you get it in a tin cans are not as healthy as you think. Before getting packed, the tomatoes and beans undergoes a lot of processing and in the process all the vital nutrients are lost. In addition to this, the resin linings of tin cans contain bisphenol-A (BPA) a synthetic estrogen that has been linked to reproductive problems , heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.
11. Diet Soda:
Diet soda is not as healthy as you think. It is low in calories, but at the same time it contains artificial sugar which can cause several health issues. Consuming diet soda on a regualr basis can cause problems related to metabolism and weight gain, neurological diseases, joint pain, digestive problems, headaches, depression, bowel problem and cancer as well.
12. White Chocolate:
Many people mistake white chocolate to contain milk and are healthy, but this is actually not. It is always better to opt for dark chocolates as it contains cocoa that helps in increasing the blood flow to the brain, protects the blood vessels and helps boost your mood.
13. Processed Meat:
Whatever the nutrient is contained in the meat gets lost when it is processed. There are several studies which shows that consuming processed meats can lead to risk of serious diseases like diabetes, heart disease and even colon cancer.
14. Low-fat Yogurt:
If you think that low-fat yogurt are healthy then you are wrong. These are low in fat but are loaded with sugar. After fermentation the low-fat yogurt undergoes pasteurization and in the process the bacteria gets killed. So it is always better to opt for full-fat yogurt as it contains probiotics.
Drinking a cup or two of coffee is considered good for health. It helps prevent liver cirrhosis. Drinking coffee alone is good, but when you add sugar, milk or whipped cream to the coffee then it can cause damage. This can cause non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
