8 Best Foods That Helps Fight Cancer (World Cancer Survivors Day)
The very word "cancer" brings about a chill among all of us. Just think of those undergoing the trauma once they are affected with the dreaded disease.
Cancer is considered as one of the leading causes of death across the world. It has no age bracket, it affects kids, teenagers, adults and elderly alike.
According to the World Health Organization, there are over 100 types of cancers known to affect human beings.

However, the good news is that several of these deaths caused by cancer can be avoided, if they're detected early and with good care following the chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatments.

1. Fresh Fruits:
A cup of fresh fruits such as bananas, kiwi, mangoes, pears, strawberries, guava, avocados, figs and oranges in about five servings a day serves as a rich source of vitamins and provides the required amount of energy.
2. Fresh Vegetables:
Fresh green leafy vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage along with carrots, peas and turnips need to be taken in small servings at least about four to five times in a day. They are rich sources of vitamins and fibres
3. Foods Containing Whole Grains:
Whole grain foods like brown rice, barley, oats, high-fibre breads and cereals need to be included in the diet of cancer survivors. It helps provide them enough strength.
4. Honey:
Honey is known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. Taking honey in a small quantity helps in preventing the infections further for cancer survivors.
5. Foods With Healthy Omega-3 Fats:
Foods having omega-3 fats like fish, specifically sardines, tuna and salmon help in building up the strength that is required by the cancer survivors. It should be consumed at least twice in a week.
6. Foods Rich In Vitamin D:
Vitamin D is known to decrease the recurrence of cancer among survivors. Apart from exposure to the sun, other sources of vitamin D include milk, cereals, sardines and salmon.
7. Foods Having Unsaturated Fats:
Olive oil, nuts and avocados are a rich source of unsaturated fats. This should be consumed in a moderate level for building up energy among the cancer survivors.
8. Soy:
One serving of soy a day helps cancer survivors to maintain a balanced diet. Tofu, soy flour, etc, are low in saturated fats and thus help in providing the required amount of energy and stamina in cancer survivors.
