Monsoon Illness Prevention: Health Department Advises Everyone To Take Weekly ‘Dry Day’
It is no coincidence that a large area of India has received heavy rains. As a result, the recent heavy rains in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana have created the ideal conditions for the outbreak of water- and vector-borne illnesses to rise.
As a precaution against mosquito breeding, the State Health Department advises families in urban areas to observe a 'dry day' on Sunday in order to minimise the risk of seasonal illnesses flare-ups.

And no - this is not the 26 Jan or 15 Aug type of dry day but actually a literal dry day.
Health Department Advises For Weekly 'Dry Day'
"Cleanliness needs to start at home. Families must take measures indoors during this monsoon season while the State Health Department implements its monsoon action plan and ensures the outdoors is maintained correctly."
He continued, "I implore folks to observe a dry day every Sunday. Spend 10 minutes that day locating sources of water and emptying them", advised T Harish Rao, the state's minister of health.

How To Observe A Dry Day In Monsoon?
Every now and then during the monsoon season, there comes a dry day that offers a perfect opportunity to take a break from the rain and engage in some productive activities. Here are some ways you can observe dry day in the monsoon season.
1. Spend 10 minutes locating water sources
On a dry day during the monsoon, it's crucial to identify any sources of stagnant water in your surroundings. Stagnant water can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects, which can lead to health hazards.
Take a stroll around your home, garden, or nearby areas to spot any containers, flower pots, or other objects that may collect water. Make a mental note of these spots for further action.
2. Empty standing water
Once you have identified the sources of water, it's time to take action. Emptying stagnant water is an effective way to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes and other insects. Grab a bucket or a container and start emptying the water from those identified spots.
By doing this simple task, you are contributing to the overall cleanliness and health of your surroundings.
3. Create a DIY rainwater harvesting system
All you need is a barrel or a container to collect rainwater from your rooftop or any other suitable surface. This collected water can later be used for various purposes such as watering plants or cleaning.
4. Use rainwater to water plants
By diverting rainwater from your rooftop or gutters towards your garden or plant beds, you can ensure that your plants receive the necessary nourishment. This not only conserves water but also promotes a healthy and vibrant garden.

On A Final Note...
Spend a few minutes locating sources of water, emptying them, and consider creating a rainwater harvesting system. Enjoy your dry day in the monsoon season!
