Turmeric:
Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and helps in relaxing the muscles and the nerves. Take about two tablespoons of turmeric powder, one tablespoon of lime juice and then add a bit of warm water and mix it well. Apply this paste around the sprained ankle and then using a bandage wrap it. Leave it overnight. Do this for about 3-4 days; it helps ease the pain.

Ice:
The moment you sprain your ankle, take a few ice cubes and then apply them on the affected area. This helps in reducing the swelling as well as the pain. Keep doing this after every 1-2 hours; this helps in reducing the pain considerably.

Epsom Salt:
Magnesium sulfate, that is present in Epsom salt helps in providing a soothing effect to the sprained muscles and nerves. All that one needs to do is pour half a cup of Epsom salt in a bucket containing warm water. Soak your sprained ankle in the Epsom salt water for about 15 minutes. This helps in providing quick relief.

Garlic:
Garlic is yet another natural remedy for sprained ankles. It is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Take a few garlic cloves, crush them, squeeze the juice, mix it along with a teaspoon of warm coconut oil and then apply it over the affected area. Keep it for about 30 minutes and then rinse it using warm water. Do this 2-3 times a day. It helps.

Onion:
Onion is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It helps in reducing the swelling, pain and inflammation. Chop a few onions, take a cloth and wrap the onion pieces in it and then place this pack on the sprained ankle and keep pressing it for about 10 minutes. Do this 2-3 times a day.

Aloe Vera:
Aloe vera is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Just take a piece of aloe vera, cut it open and then apply the gel to the affected ankle. Or you can take a gauge, soak it in aloe vera gel and then place it on the affected area until it gets dry. It provides a cooling effect and reduces the inflammation.

Castor Oil:
Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid which is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Dip a clean cotton cloth in castor oil and place this on the affected area. Wrap the area around with a plastic and keep it in an elevated position for about 15 minutes. Remove the wrap and the cloth and rub the oil that is left. Do this 2-3 times a day.
