Triglyceride v/s Cholesterol – What's Causing Stroke?

A 33 year long study in Denmark has proved that increased level of non-fasting Triglyceride causes rise in stroke level both in men and women. High level of triglyceride is causes due to over eating. These extra calories are stored as fat cells or are collected in the liver, which eventually adds on to the bad cholesterol and create plague in the arteries. You are at risk of stroke due to triglyceride if it exceeds the level of 350.
According to the study made in “Annals of Neurology" In India stroke levels are directly related to high levels of triglyceride. In 2004, India reported 9.3 lakh cases and 6.4 lakh deaths by stroke due to triglyceride. Thus, proving that high triglyceride causes stroke.
Dr Kameshwar Prasad, professor of neurology at AIIMS, told TOI, "This is a very important finding. However, the cholesterol and stroke risk data is very strong because we have seen how lowering cholesterol levels reduces cases of stroke. The same has to be demonstrated by lowering non-fasting triglyceride levels and seeing if that reduces stroke numbers for it to become a clinching evidence. This data is important for Indians known to have high triglyceride levels."
