Avial: Microwave Recipe For Onam

An easy Avial recipe is what you need with Onam just round the corner. We all know that avial recipe is an traditional Onam recipe that is prepared for the feast, Sadhya in all Keralite families. So, what is the big deal about this one? The deal is that this is an Indian microwave recipe too apart from being a great Onam recipe.

Cooking is a tough job these days with both partners working so it has to be made as easy and quick as possible. Which is why you need an Avial recipe that is also an Indian microwave recipe. This Onam recipe can be prepared in a healthy way, in the microwave oven to save you lots of time and energy. So you get to enjoy delicious Kerala cuisine on this festive occasion and yet don't have to put too much effort into it.

Ingredients For Avial Recipe:

1. Curd-100 grams
2. Carrots-2
3. String beans-10
4. Brinjal or eggplant-'
5. Bottle gourd-'
6. Bitter gourd-1
7. Drumsticks-2
8. Pumpkin-2 inches
9. Coconut-3 to 4 one inch pieces (ground)
10. Curry Leaves
11. Mustard seeds-2 teaspoons
12. Cumin seeds-2 teaspoons
13. Green Chillies-4 (finely chopped)
14. Red Chillies-2
15. Ghee-1 tablespoon
16. Oil-1 tablespoon
17. Salt as per taste

Procedure For Avial Recipe:

  • Chop all the vegetables into small pieces.
  • Take a microwavable bowl and heat oil in it for 2 minutes. Put in the chopped vegetables and a few spoonful of water. Cook for 6-8 minutes at 800 power.
  • Now remove it from the microwave, add ground coconut, bit of turmeric and salt. Cook for another 3 minutes.
  • Add beaten curd and mix well. Cook at 80 percent power for 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, put a shallow pan on the gas stove and melt ghee in it.
  • For preparing the tadka or tempering singe put red chilies, green chillies, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and curry leaves in ghee.
  • Finally, pour this burning mixture over the microwave cooked vegetables.

Avial is ready to serve for your Onam feast.
