Healthy Bajre Ki Khichdi Recipe From Haryana
Bajre ki khichdi is a special dish from the states of Haryana and Rajasthan. When we talk of khichdi, we can only think of rice and dal cooked together with a few other ingredients. This is the reason why most people find khichdi as a dull thing to eat. But with the right ingredients and cooking style, even khichdi can be made into a sumptuous meal.
Bajre ki khichdi is not only a tasty dish, but is also extremely healthy. Bajra or black millet is a great source of proteins, iron and folic acid. This makes it a perfect food for pregnant women too. The mild flavour of the khichdi and the unique taste makes this vegetarian recipe a tempting treat.

As for the taste, you can always experiment by adding in more spices according to your preference. But if you are bent on enjoying the native taste of Haryana, the check out the recipe for bajre ki khichdi and give it a try.
Serves: 3
Preparation time: 8 hours
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
- Bajra- ½ cup
- Moong dal- ½ cup
- Ghee- 1tbsp
- Cumin seeds- 1tsp
- Hing- ½ tsp
- Ginger- 1 medium piece (grated)
- Green chillies- 2 (slit)
- Salt- as per taste
- Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
Procedure
1. Soak the bajra in water overnight or for 8 hours.
2. After that, drain the water from bajra and keep it aside.
3. Wash the moong dal thoroughly with water.
4. Mix the bajra, moong dal, salt with 2 cups of water and pressure cook it. Wait for 4 whistles to blow.
5. Once done, switch off the flame and keep the pressure cooker aside.
6. Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds, hing, ginger, green chillies, turmeric powder to it. Saute for a few seconds.
7. Now add the cooked bajra and dal mixture to the pan and saute for 3-4 minutes. Keep stirring.
8. Once done, switch off the flame and serve.
Enjoy this healthy and tasty khichdi with lassi or curd.
