Easy Dhaba Style Dal Makhani Recipe
People who love to take road trips once in while would be familiar with the roadside eateries on the highways. These small, dingy shops are known as the dhabas. And they serve some of most delicious foods which you can ever eat. They mostly serve the tired travellers who pull over for a hot and hearty meal before heading towards their destination.
Eating in a dhaba, sitting on a charpoy, under the open sky has a completely different charm of its own. If you have ever eaten in one of these roadside Indian eateries, then chances are that you have tasted some of the best Indian dishes and beverages like aloo matar, paneer makhani, dal makhani, lassi, naan and so many other mouthwatering delights.

So, today we have a special dal recipe which is popular among most people irrespective of the regions. Dal makhani is one dal recipe which is enjoyed by almost each of us at any and every occasion. Take a look at this easy dal recipe and learn to prepare the exotic dhaba style dal makhani at your home.

Preparation time: 3-4 hours
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- Urad dal- 1/2 cup
- Rajma- 1/4 cup
- Ginger- 1 medium piece (crushed)
- Ginger juliannes- for garnish
- Garlic- 6-7 cloves
- Green chillies- 2-3
- Tomatoes- 4
- Jeera (cumin) seeds- 1tsp
- Methi (fenugreek) seeds- 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder- 1tsp
- Red chilli powder- 1tsp
- Garam masala powder- 1/2tsp
- Dhaniya (coriander) powder- 1tsp
- Salt- as per taste
- Butter- 2tbsp
- Cream- 2tbsp (for garnish)
Procedure
1. Wash and soak the urad dal and rajma together in water for about 3-4 hours.
2. After that, drain the water from the dal and rajma. Pressure cook the dal and rajma with salt, crushed ginger and 3 cups of water. Wait for 4 whistles to go.
3. Once done, switch off the flame and keep the pressure cooker aside.
4. Grind the tomatoes, garlic and green chillies into paste. Keep it aside.
5. Heat butter in a pan and add jeera seeds, methi seeds. Cook for a minute.
6. Then add the tomato paste and cook for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
7. Add in the dhaniya powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and garam masala powder. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
8. Now add in the cooked dal and rajma to the pan and simmer for 4-5 minutes.
9. Once done, switch off the flame and garnish it with ginger juliannes and cream.
Dhaba style dal makhani is ready to be served. Enjoy this special treat with rotis or rice.
