On the last day of the Ashada masa, i.e., on the no moon day, Bheemana Amavasya is celebrated. This festival is dedicated to lord Shiva.
Married women and girls perform this vrata. Unmarried girls perform this vrata until they get married and then continue this vrata for the next 9 years. The Bheemana Amavasya festival is celebrated in many parts of South India.

On this special day, a turmeric thread is tied on to the right hand of the girl by her elders or by her husband.
The main reason to celebrate Bheemana Amavasya by the ladies is for the well-being of their husbands and offer prayers to lord Shiva for prosperity of their husband.
Special dishes are prepared and offered to lord Shiva on this day.

Also, the day after the Bheemana Amavasya festival, Shravana masa begins, which is an important masa or the season for Hindu deities, since many festivals are celebrated within a span of 3 to 4 months during this time.
