Adai Dosa: Spicy Breakfast Recipe

Dosa is a very staple breakfast dish in the southern parts of India. Adai originated in Tamil Nadu and adai dosa is a very popular and filling breakfast dish. Adai dosa is paired with vegetables, sambar and coconut chutney.
Adai dosas are slightly thicker than the normal dosa and the batter is slightly coarse. This means you need to use lots of oil to prepare adai dosa. The batter of adai dosa is very spicy, so this breakfast recipe is a must try for foodies out there.
Adai dosa, breakfast recipe:

Serves: 3
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Ingredients
- Rava rice- ½ cup
- Idli rice- ½ cup
- Chana dal- ½ cup
- Toor dal- 1/3 cup
- Urad dal- ¼ cup
- Grated coconut- 1/3 cup
- Red chillies- 3-4
- Curry leaves- 8-10
- Cumin seeds- 1tsp
- Asafoetida- ½ tsp
- Salt- as per taste
- Oil- ½ cup
- Coriander leaves- 2tbsp (chopped)
- Curry leaves- 2tbsp (chopped)
Procedure
- Soak the rice overnight in one container. In another bowl, soak urad dal, chana dal, moong dal and toor dal.
- Now, grind the soaked dals together with little water to make a smooth paste. Pour in a bowl and keep aside.
- Grind rice with red chillies, coconut cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves and make a coarse dosa batter using little water.
- Mix ground dal with rice batter and add salt. Also add chopped coriander and curry leaves. Mix well and keep it aside for 25-30 minutes.
- Heat a thick griddle (tawa). Pour little oil on the tawa and then spread a scoop full of dosa batter.
- Oil the dosa and fry on a medium flame on both the sides till the dosa becomes golden brown and looks crisp.
- If the tawa becomes sticky or dirty, wipe with a half cut onion. Add oil and then make dosas with the remaining batter.
Adai dosas are ready to eat. Serve this breakfast dish hot with sambar and coconut chutney.
