Achari Gosht: Spicy Mutton Recipe

Ingredients

  • Mutton- 1 kg (with bone)
  • Dry red chillies- 8
  • Mustard seeds- 1tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds- ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1tsp
  • Fennel seeds- 1tsp
  • Onion seeds- 1tsp
  • Cloves- 5
  • Mustard Oil- 4tbsp
  • Onions- 4 (chopped)
  • Ginger- 2tsp (chopped)
  • Garlic- 3tsp (chopped)
  • Turmeric powder- 1tsp
  • Red chilli powder- 1tsp
  • Tomatoes- 4 (chopped)
  • Lemon juice- 1tbsp
  • Coriander leaves- 2tbsp (chopped)
  • Water- 2 ½ cups

Procedure

  1. Dry roast the red chillies, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds, fennel seeds, onion seeds and cloves for about 2-3 minutes on medium flame.
  2. Switch off the flame and allow it to cool down. Then grind the whole thing into a coarse powder in a mixer. Keep it aside.
  3. Clean and wash the mutton pieces properly.
  4. Heat mustard oil in a pan. Add onions and fry for about 5 minutes till they turn golden brown.
  5. Add ginger and garlic. Saute for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Now add the prepared masala powder and keep stirring continuously.
  7. Then add the mutton and fry on medium heat for about 10 minutes till the mutton turns golden brown on all the sides.
  8. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and mix well.
  9. Cook for about 5 minutes on medium flame. Then add water and mix well.
  10. Cover and cook for about 20 minutes on low flame till the mutton gets completely cooked. Stir occasionally.
  11. After it gets cooked completely, add lemon juice and mix well.
  12. Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.

Achari gosht is ready to be served. Enjoy this spicy mutton recipe with rotis or rice.
