What makes this easy Christmas recipe special is the beer can stuffed into the back end of the chicken that is being grilled! Beer can chicken recipe minus the beer can is a normal herb grilled chicken recipe.

The beer gives the chicken flavour and an amazing tenderness. Beer can chicken is an easy Christmas recipe for guys because it needs minimum preparation time and skills that men have in abundance (opening beer cans)!

Ingredients For Beer Can Chicken:

1. Whole chicken with skin 1 (2-3 kgs)
2. Beer can 1
3. Ground pepper 2 tablespoon
4. Thyme dried 1 tablespoon
5. Basil leaves (freshly chopped) 2 tablespoons
6. Rosemary 1 tablespoon
7. Olive oil or butter 2 tablespoons
8. Salt as per paste

Procedure For Beer Can Chicken:

  • Chop of the neck of the chicken and wash its insides. Throw away all the guts from inside the stomach. You can also get this done from the poultry shop if you don't want to take the trouble.
  • Now make sure that the cavity of the neck is big enough to fit the mouth of the beer can. If its not then cut from the sides to accommodate it.
  • Rub the chicken over with olive oil or butter and then all the spices and herbs added here. There is no set rule for spices to be used other than salt and pepper, so you can experiment.
  • Cut out the top of the beer can; it should not filled to the brim, just about ¾. Fit it into the chicken and place it on open fire.
  • You cannot put a beer can in the microwave so either you can build a fire with coal (barbeque style) or put a metal rack on the gas and place the chicken stuck on the can on it.
  • Cover the setup with a pot or a perforated cover. Leave it untouched for 1 hour. Check after the hour passes and make some incisions into the chicken.
  • You can cook for another 20 minutes to half hour this way. Remove it from the fire and let it stand for 15 minutes.

Pull out the beer can with pliers and serve beer can chicken standing upright.
