Grilled Omelet Sandwich With Fresh Mint Chutney For Suhoor
The holy month of Ramzan is going on. Our Muslim friends are keeping fasts to honour the first sermon of Prophet Muhammad. Fasting during Ramadan brings the greatest of blessings from the almighty.
The ninth month of the lunar calendar is kept aside for piety and spiritual awareness. During this time of hard fasts, it is important to feed the body and soul with healthy and tasty food, at the Iftar and Suhoor.
While it is possible for the women folk to prepare elaborate dishes and feasts for the Iftar, it might not be feasible to do so for the feast at Suhoor. When preparing food for Iftar, people have a lot of time during the day. But when it comes to Suhoor, it is early morning and one needs fresh food at a quicker pace.
It is also important that one eats nutritious food at Suhoor, as it helps in preparing the body for the tough fast ahead during the day.
With this in mind, we bring you the simple, tasty and easy Grilled Omelet Sandwich recipe. This dish is accompanied with fresh mint chutney. With the proteins in the eggs and carbohydrates in the bread, you will surely feel full and prepared for the day's fast. Let's now take a look at the recipe.
Serves - 3
Cooking Time - 30 minutes
Preparation time - 30 minutes
Ingredients:
To make the fresh mint chutney
- Mint leaves - 2 handfuls
- Coriander leaves - 1 handful
- Green chillies - 2
- Garlic - 2 cloves
- Ginger - ½ inch piece
- Lemon juice - 1 tsp
- Sugar - 1 tsp
- Salt - as per taste
- Water - ½ cup
To make the grilled omelet sandwich
- Bread slices - 3
- Cheese slices - 2
- Mint chutney - 1 tbsp
- Eggs - 4
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Method:
To make the fresh mint chutney
- Take the chutney jar of your mixer grinder. You may also use the blender to make the mint chutney.
- Add all the ingredients listed for the fresh mint chutney into the jar.
- Blend or grind the ingredients until it forms a smooth paste.
- Any excess amount of chutney can be reserved and served with other snacks.
- The chutney stores good in the refrigerator for two days.
To make the grilled omelet sandwich
- Take a bowl and break eggs into it. Add salt and pepper to it. Beat the content of the bowl until the eggs turn a little fluffy.
- Take a frying pan and pour a ladle full of the egg mixture into the pan.
- Tilt the pan to spread the egg throughout the pan.
- When the egg cooks at the bottom, place a slice of bread on top of the omelet.
- Fold the sides of the omelet to cover the bread slice on all sides.
- Cook for two more minutes and remove the bread on a plate.
- Place a slice of cheese on the bread. Remember to place it on the side that has the folds.
- Now, take the remaining two slices.
- Use a spoon to spread a spoonful of green chutney on both the bread slices.
- Use these slices of bread to sandwich the bread in the omelet.
- Grill the three slices together.
- Cut into triangles and serve hot with ketchup or mint chutney.
- Use a sandwich maker for an even grill.
You may add a layer of vegetables like tomatoes, cucumber, onions and carrots in the sandwich. This would make the sandwich tastier, healthier and even more wholesome.
