Sunscreen Before Moisturiser Or After? What Happens When You Apply Skincare Products In Incorrect Order?
As the largest organ of your body, your skin plays a major role in your overall health and appearance. Skincare primarily focuses on the delicate areas of your face, neck, and chest, with regimens that target cleansing, moisturising, and treating specific conditions.
Healthy skin is important for more than just your appearance; it plays an important role in your general health [1].

Your skin is the first line of defence against infection and other environmental risks, and it helps to regulate your body temperature and maintain a pH balance. It also helps to prevent dehydration by keeping moisture in and harmful substances out [2].
Proper skincare can help to keep your skin healthy and prevent skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis - and - that is why it is so important to have a skincare routine, and more importantly, to do the routine properly.
Do You Know What Happens If You Apply Skincare Products In The Wrong Order?
Even though our skin generally absorbs a small amount of all products, applying them in the prescribed sequence has its advantages, highlights Vogue.
Putting on SPF before moisturiser
A moisturiser is the first step in skincare. If moisturiser is applied after sunscreen or even when it is mixed in with the sunscreen, it will alter the properties of the sunscreen as well as alter the way in which UV rays will reach your skin, thereby diluting and reducing its efficacy.

Applying moisturiser before toner
The purpose of toners is to remove impurities and residue left behind after cleansing the skin, as well as to prepare the skin for moisture.
If toner is applied after moisturiser has been applied, it will rip off the moisturiser and leave the skin looking dull and dehydrated.
Using a cleanser without removing makeup
In comparison to a gentle face wash or cleanser, makeup remover effectively removes cosmetic products, impurities, and dirt from your skin's surface. Rubbing the cleanser vigorously if you haven't removed the makeup, can result in dry, stripped skin.
Serum after moisturiser
It is important to remember that serums contain active ingredients that penetrate deeply into the skin to achieve effective results. A moisturiser, on the other hand, acts as a layer that hydrates and nourishes the skin.
When applied before serum, it dilutes the effectiveness of the serum and interferes with the delivery of active ingredients to the skin.

On A Final Note...
Even though it might seem tempting to just slap all your skincare products on in one go, following the wrong order will leave you with dull, fatigued skin, and wreak havoc on your skin. So make sure you don't apply your skincare products in incorrect order.
