Ingredients included in this DIY hair cleansing mask are yogurt, honey and lemon. Yogurt contains vitamin B6, vitamin B12, lactic acid, and zinc.

Lactic acid makes your locks soft. Vitamin B6 conditions hair. Vitamin B12 promotes growth and zinc gives hair its dark pigment.

Lemon, on the other hand, contains microbial properties that break down yeast buildup, cleanse the scalp and kill dandruff- causing bacteria.

It is also rich in citric acid that controls excess sebum production and it gives your mane an irresistible shine.

Amino acid in honey locks the moisture in the hair strands, making it soft and supple. Now that you know precisely how this lemon hair mask for dandruff works, let's get down to the recipe.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to clear dandruff naturally and cleanse scalp.

Step 1:

Take half a cup of probiotic yogurt in a bowl. Make sure it is an unflavored one and you can also use greek yogurtinstead!

Step 2:

Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to it. Cut lemon in half, take it in a spoon, and hold it over the flame for 10 to 20 seconds. Allow it to cool a bit and then squeeze the juice.

Step 3:

Add a tablespoon of honey to the mixture. Honey not just moisturises hair strands, but also is packed with vitamin C, as it can make your locks turn super-silky and soft.

Step 4:

You can also add 3 to 4 drops of tea tree oil to the mixture. Packed with antibacterial and antifungal properties, lemon juice will remove dandruff right off and kill any lurking microbes.

Step 5:

Using a wide-toothed comb, remove all the knots from your hair. If your hair is too dry, take a few drops of coconut oil in the palm of your hand and rub it to your hair ends. It will help remove the tangles, without breaking your hair strands.

Step 6:

Dip your finger into the mask and liberally apply it to your scalp and hair length. For better application, divide your hair in small sections and then apply.

Step 7:

Tie your hair in a loose bun. Let the mask sit for 1 hour. Later, shampoo and condition as usual. Make sure every leftover residue is thoroughly rinsed off from your hair!

Step 8:

Squeeze out the water from your hair. Wrap your hair with an old t-shirt to remove excess moisture. Let your hair air-dry naturally.

  • Before using hair dryer, make it a point to apply heat- protecting serum.
  • Avoid combing your hair when wet, as it leads to hair breakage!
  • Treat your hair to coconut oil hair massage once a week to keep it well moisturised.

This lemon hair mask, when used consistently, can nourish, hydrate and repair your hair strands. Apply it once a week to see best results.
