Marichyasana-The Sage Twist
This asana is dedicated to Sage Marichi who is the son of Brahma, the creator and the grandfather of Surya, the Sun God.
1.Sit on the floor with legs outstretched straight in front.
2.Bend the left knee and rest the left sole and heel of the left foot flat on the floor with the shin of the left leg perpendicular to the floor and the calf touching the thigh. Have the left heel near the perineum. The inner side of the left foot should touch the inner side of the outstretched right leg.
3.Bring the left shoulder forward to bring the arm pit to touch the left shin of the leg.
4.Bring the left forearm around the left thigh and the throw the left forearm behind the back and bring the right hand backwards and clasp the wrist of the left hand or vice versa. If it is not possible to clasp the wrist, hold the fingers.
5.Turn the spine and to the left having the right outstretched leg straight and remain in this position looking at the right outstretched right big toe taking a few deep breaths.
6.Exhale and bend forward and rest the forehead, then the nose followed by the lips and then the chin on the right knee.
