Annihilation Of Arrogance

Arrogance
A young man sneers at an elderly person and treats him with contempt and disrespect. This is arrogance. Another man hurls an object at a person and swears at him in the height of anger. This is arrogance. Another person dishes out threats "Don't you know who I am? I 'Will break your bones. I will drink your blood". This is arrogance.

Yet another person proclaims loudly "No one can boss over me. Why should I approach him first? Is he more learned than me?

Who are you to question me?" This is arrogance.

Arrogance is born of , insolence, overbearing nature and impudence. It is the reincarnation of 'Ahankara'. Generally, the victim of arrogance is a thoughtless man not used to the art of introspection and self-analysis.

A man may renounce the whole world and dwell in a cave in the Himalayas for years together and yet may find it difficult to renounce his arrogant nature. When the real test comes, he may hopelessly and miserably fail.

The only way out is to watch our thoughts, words and actions. It is essential to realise the infinite power of words and use them judiciously. Inspite of all care and vigilance, arrogance, like a myriad-headed monster, will raise its head several times a day. This calls for the use of the deadly sword of viveka, discrimination and humility.

May the lord help us in eradicating arrogance, which is a direct gateway to hell!
