Sheetala Ashtami 2024: Puja Vidhi And Other Rules To Follow On This Day
According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Sheetala Ashtami is celebrated every year on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month. On this day, stale food is offered to Mata Shitala, the incarnation of Goddess Parvati.
Sheetala Ashtami is also known by other names like Basauda or Basiaura. It is clear from the name of Sheetala Mata that she helps in providing relief from any problem. By worshiping Maa Sheetala properly on this day, there is no disease in the house and the family remains healthy. On the day of Sheetala Ashtami, the stove is not lit in the houses and it is customary to accept only stale food as Prasad.

When Will Sheetala Ashtami 2024 Be Worshiped?
Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in Chaitra month will start at 09:09 pm on 01 April and will end the next day on 02 April at 08:08 PM. According to Udayatithi, the festival of Sheetala Ashtami will be celebrated on 02 April. Those who celebrate Sheetala Saptami will perform Sheetala Saptami puja on 1st April.
Sheetala Ashtami 2024 Puja Vidhi And Worship Method
1. On the day of Sheetala Ashtami, wake up early in the morning and meditate on Goddess Sheetala.
2. On this day, the fasting person should finish his morning activities and take a bath with clean and cool water.
3. After bathing, take a resolution with the following mantra - 'Mam Gehe Shitalarogjanitopadrav Prashaman Purvkayurarogyaishwaryaabhividhiye Shitalashtami Vrat Karishye.
4. After resolution, worship Goddess Sheetala with rituals and red flowers, etc. No lamp etc. is to be lit in this puja.
5. On this day, worship Mother Goddess with sweet rice, turmeric, gram dal, and water in a pot.
6. Mantra of worship- Chant 'Hum Shreem Shitalayai Namah' continuously.
7. Offer water to Mother Shtala and pour a few drops of it on yourself.
8. After this, offer cold food to Mother Shitala.
9. After this, recite Sheetala Stotra and listen to the story of Sheetala Mata.
10. It is believed that Mother Sheetala, who cures diseases, resides in the Neem tree, hence worship the Neem tree on this day.
11. On this day, chant the mantra 'Om Hreem Shreem Shitalayai Namah' as much as possible.
12. Fill some of the water you offer during puja and the water that flows after offering it in a pot. This water is very pure. All the members of the house should apply this to their eyes.
13. Bring this water home and sprinkle it in every part. This purifies the house.
14. On the day of Shitala Saptami, eat curry-rice, gram dal, halwa, puri without salt, sweet rice, sweet rice (oliya), khaja, churma, shakar pare, puri, dal-rice, lapsi, pua, pakoda, rabri. Dishes like millet khichdi, millet roti and vegetables etc. are prepared. These dishes are prepared and kept without cooking and on the day of Shitala Ashtami, they are first offered to the Mother Goddess, after which other family members and accept it as Prasad.
