Padmini Ekadashi 2026: Do’s And Don’ts To Follow During This Rare Purushottam Maas Ekadashi Fast
Padmini Ekadashi in 2026 falls on 27 May 2026 (Wednesday) during Adhik Maas, also known as Purushottam Maas. This Ekadashi is not part of the usual monthly cycle that appears every year in a fixed pattern. Instead, it is connected to a special adjustment in the Hindu lunar calendar, where an extra month is added to balance the difference between the lunar and solar years. This extra month does not occur annually, which is why the Ekadashi falling within it carries a different placement in the calendar.
Why Padmini Ekadashi Is Considered Special
Padmini Ekadashi is observed during Adhik Maas, a period traditionally dedicated to deeper spiritual practice in Vaishnav traditions. Since this month itself is outside the normal festival rhythm, the Ekadashi falling within it is observed with added focus on simplicity and devotion.
Common beliefs associated with this day include:
- Mental clarity through fasting and discipline
- A reflective approach to habits and thoughts
- Strengthening devotion toward Lord Vishnu
Padmini Ekadashi Rarity And Occurrence Cycle
- Padmini Ekadashi occurs only during Adhik Maas (Purushottam Maas)
- Adhik Maas happens due to the lunar-solar calendar adjustment
- This extra month appears roughly every 32-33 months
- That means: About once every 2.5 to 3 years (on average)
How Padmini Ekadashi Is Observed
The observance is centered around fasting, prayer, and maintaining discipline throughout the day.
DO's
- Wake up during Brahma Muhurta
- Wear white or yellow clothing
- Offer Tulsi leaves and lotus flowers to Lord Vishnu
- Eat fruits, nuts, sabudana, or observe Nirjala fast if possible
- Chant "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya"
DON'Ts
- Avoid rice and grains
- Avoid daytime sleep
- Avoid arguments and negativity
Padmini Ekadashi 2026 Parana Timing
The fast is broken on 28 May 2026 (Thursday) during the Dwadashi Parana window, from 05:25 AM to 07:56 AM IST, after sunrise. It is important to complete the Parana within this time frame, before Dwadashi ends. A light sattvic meal is usually taken after prayers to conclude the fast.
Padmini Ekadashi 2026 stands out because it appears during Adhik Maas, a lunar adjustment period that does not occur every year. Its observance is centered on fasting, prayer, and discipline, with attention given to simplicity and consistency throughout the day. The focus remains on maintaining a mindful routine through the Ekadashi period and following traditional practices as per the Panchang.
